ISM | Art: “Need Racks For Rari” by WB
To give each artwork its individuality, the focus in this collection was to find a pop culture reference for each of the top luxury brands and a matching word to refer to money. For some of these cars that proved to be more challenging than others but for Ferrari, there was no doubt that I’d use the terms ‘RACKS’ and ‘RARI’. These two words are found in many rap songs almost synonymously and for good reason. It’s short, powerful and rolls off the tongue with ease. For that reason I started on this specific artwork first in the collection. I instantly noticed that I was out of practice because I hadn’t drawn for 3 months at the time I made this one. I made countless errors and reworked it so many times. That’s why I truly disliked the artwork after it was first completed. But Lo and Behold it only took a couple of days before I realised that this is probably my favourite artwork in the collection. It’s not that I’m a particular fan of Ferrari. It’s also not that I think I nailed the artwork. I think it’s honestly just because something in it makes it hard to stop looking. It’s almost eerie but also cool. A Ferrari F40 somewhere in Tuscany going pretty fast in a dusty road… a recipe for disaster. But a good recipe nonetheless. ‘NEED RACKS FOR RARI’ Willow charcoal and Acrylic Gel on canvas 140 x 140cm
